Mayfield Park + Vic Mathias Shores Park Engagement Session

Kira and Clint were exciting to photograph. We started off at Mayfield Park and drove to the Long Center but there was a concert going on so we decided to stick to the park across the street. We sweat from everywhere, but I think we totally made it worth it. 

How They Met:

One night Kira was so tired of her awful dating experiences she stopped mid walk to pray, and asked God to send her a good man. Later she experienced a vision of the words "He is Coming" written in her foggy shower door, which lead her to believe God was answering her prayers. It was around this time that Kira also decided to reactivate her online dating profile.

Meanwhile, Clint was very close to taking a long, possibly permanent, break from online dating after a series of first dates that went nowhere. However, he decided to give it a go just a few more days, during which time he came across Kira’s profile for the first time. He could tell this was a smart, beautiful, genuine woman, so he messaged her. Kira responded almost immediately. She liked that Clint was religious and volunteered a lot. They messaged back and forth for a couple of days until Clint asked Kira to dinner.

The two met on January 10, 2015, at Hillside Farmacy. After a wonderful dinner, they began to depart but it was raining outside. Clint asked Kira to wait and ran to his car to retrieve his umbrella. He came back and walked her to her car. At that point, Kira knew he was the answer to her prayers. Similarly, Clint could sense that there was something different about this girl. The two have been inseparable since.

The Proposal:

For some time Clint knew where he wanted to propose to Kira – in front of the red doors of the Main Building at St. Edward’s University. Clint lived and worked at St. Edward’s as a Residence Director and they had passed the red doors several times during evening walks around campus. The trouble was, Clint didn’t know how to get Kira there at a set date and time and still keep it a surprise. Then fate threw Clint a break. Clint’s sister and brother-in-law, who ran a photography business on the side, held a photo shoot for a client on the St. Edward’s campus. This gave Clint an idea – the very next Sunday, he would tell Kira that his sister and brother-in-law were holding another shoot for another client at St. Edward’s, only this time they wanted to get dinner with him and Kira after the shoot. Clint’s sister would eventually text him that they had “finished” at the red doors and that they could meet them there and carpool to dinner.

Clint’s sister and brother-in-law agreed to actually be there to assist with setup and take photos. Clint also enlisted his other sister and a close co-worker friend to help, and he hired one of his student workers who played the harp. Clint and Kira waited in Clint’s apartment until his sister texted. Once she did they began to walk over. As they came in sight of the Main Building steps, Clint and Kira could see the harpist and his siblings; however, Kira did not yet figure out what was happening. It was only after Clint said “It’s almost as if someone were proposing today” that Kira realized what was going on, and a smile came over her face.

Clint walked Kira up the steps, adorned with red and gold rose petals and lace ribbon. At the top of the stairs in front of the red doors there was a small table draped in white cloth, on which sat a flower bouquet and a mahogany box. After a few short words, Clint grabbed the box, got on one knee, took out the ring, and asked Kira to marry him. Without hesitation, she said yes, and the two embraced in a kiss. 

Clint and Kira will be married in February just a few days before my wedding anniversary with the Ceremony at St. Edward's followed by the reception at Creekside.
