Richard Moya Park Engagement Session | Austin, Texas | Herman + Dhivya

Herman + Dhivya just got a new place together so I thought it was only appropriate for me to make myself at home and meet them there. I was immediately greeted by the dogs and Dhiv's parents. We started with an in-home session and drove over to Richard Moya Park where all the sunset magic happens.

How They Met:

It was the the first few hours of the new year 2015 and Dhivya decided to join OKCupid as she was watching Law and Order SVU. I guess the show inspired her to believe meeting strangers is an exciting thing. *Bah-dum-tss* Herman was playing xbox and winding down for the evening with Romsie -- the oldest of the pups when he came across a beautiful girl in a yellow sari (the exact one she wore for the engagement session). They exchanged messages which led to exchanging phone numbers and Dhivya making the first move with a phone call.

He was taken back by how forward she came off, but he loved it and they talked into the following day. Eventually, they hung up around 3am and made plans to meet in person at the W that same day. When he walked in to meet her, time seemed to take it's time as if to self-declare that this was the moment that changed it all. She was even more beautiful in person.

Dhiv knew Herman was the one when she saw how he interacted with not only her family but his own, and of course the pups. While he claimed to be a selfish person, he does the most selfless things and always puts other first.

How He Asked:

Herman proposed to Dhivya where they celebrated their second date, Phara's Mediterranean Cuisine. They had friends and family in town and while he had already purchased the ring, he had no intentions of proposing that night. For some reason, something told him to take it along with him anyway. As they were having dinner, the moment quickly struck him and down on one knee he went. All he could hear was, "Something is happening!"

On their first date, a stranger asked how long they had been married and almost 5 years later on November 23rd, they'll be uniting two backgrounds, two communities, and two families with a Catholic and Hindu religious wedding ceremony.

Dhivya and I have been Facebook friends since she asked me to photograph an event last year. Since then, I've seen them celebrate the good times and buy a house together. I'm so honored to be the one to photograph your union. It's going to be an emotional day. I'm serious, I love you two so much I don't know if I'll be able to keep it together. I'll see you next month! Eeeeeek!
